New Year’s Resolutions: Skin Care Habits to Try in 2021

It’s a new year and a fresh start.

Stopped working out last year? Start again now, the slate is clean! Feel like you’re falling behind and need to get ahead? Set goals and check off your most important tasks.

Your skin hasn’t been looking its best? It’s the perfect time to switch things up for 2021. Today, we share skincare-inspired resolutions to help your skin look it’s best all year long.

1. Wear Sunscreen Every Day

In 2021, make it a habit to apply sunscreen every morning before your makeup, and reapply throughout the day. The sun is always shining and wreaking havoc on our exposed skin…even when it’s dark and cloudy.

Use SPF moisturizer to protect your skin from the sun’s damaging UV rays which cause premature aging (think fine lines, wrinkles) and sunburn (sunspots).

2. Try Multi-Masking

Customize your skin care routine with a weekly (or bi-weekly) multi-masking recipe to target your skin’s specific concerns. Facial masks are each formulated to target a specific skin care concern and each can be used on their own or in a unique multi-masking recipe.

3. Moisturize Regularly

Moisturizing is an important step in any good skin care routine (right up there with cleansing and daily SPF application). It works to hydrate, comfort, soothe, and promote a healthy, youthful-looking glow.

If you already moisturize after you get out of the shower and/or wash your face…great! Now, up the ante and reapply your moisturizer throughout the day and at night before you sleep.

4. Wash Your Face Before Bed

Cleansing before bed is a no-brainer…especially if you’ve been rocking a full face of makeup all day. Many are guilty of skipping out on cleanser in the evening.

Make it a habit to wash your face before you sleep to help remove dirt, impurities, and sweat from the surface of your skin.

5. Treat Your Skin to Weekly Exfoliation

You may be exfoliating but are you consistent? In 2021, make it a habit to scrub your skin with effective exfoliants at least once a week to remove dry, dead skin cells build up from the surface of your skin and allow your moisturizers to work efficiently, too.

6. Drink More Water

Falling behind on your daily water intake? In the new year, make it a habit to drink the recommended amount of water throughout the day. Doing so can help replenish both the body and the skin.

7. Oil Cleanse

Replace soap with organic and cold pressed plant oils like Jojoba, Rosehip Seed Oil and Seabuckthorn Oil.

Oil cleansing is simple. Squirt a little oil to your palm and massage in circles all around your face. Wet a wash cloth with warm water and repeat those same circular motions all over your face. Rinse the cloth and repeat once more. Apply a moisturizer, or leave your skin as it is: radiant, soft and clean.

8. Use a Vitamin C Serum

Seriously. If you haven’t tried a Vitamin C serum on your skin yet, you need to. Vitamin C helps keep skin young and vibrant. No matter your age, gender or lifestyle, a vitamin C serum needs to make its way into your routine.

9. Hands Off Your Face

If you’re a picker, now is the time to break the habit. Picking makes the skin break out, damages collagen and connective proteins, and inhibits the skin’s ability to heal and repair itself.

Picking pimples and blemishes also spreads bacteria around and encourages the formation of hyperpigmentation and scarring – two things you don’t need more of! In 2021, keep those picky little paws off your gorgeous face, your skin will thank you.
